The i-ACTIV AWD® system is Mazda’s new-generation, fully autonomous all-wheel-drive technology. This system has you and your vehicle covered, whether you’re braving harsh driving conditions during a snowstorm in Buffalo or traveling in rainy weather in Lackawanna. And with this new, innovative AWD system, you won’t have to sacrifice the excellent fuel economy ratings Mazda is known for to achieve greater traction and wheel grip. Below, you’ll learn more about this unique AWD system and the new Mazda vehicles that offer it!
While you’re on the road, i-ACTIV AWD® never rests; it’s constantly tracking road conditions and small changes in wheel speeds. This system uses a series of sensors to monitor the driving conditions as well as to help make adjustments to the torque allocated to the front and rear axles. This is what makes i-ACTIV AWD® an active torque split AWD system, and is why it’s such a great choice for Hamburg roads.
The Front-Wheel Slip-Warning Detection System also uses a variety of sensors — but for another purpose. These sensors monitor ground speed and front-wheel speed, allowing the system to sense tiny wheel slips that could lead to tire spin. This model also provides Torque Control System that works closely with Front-Wheel Slip-Warning and i-ACTIV AWD® to assist, even in FWD mode, in transferring a small amount of torque to the rear wheels. It also helps your vehicle switch to AWD without lag.
Mazda’s compact cars, such as the Mazda3, are offered with front-wheel drive only. i-ACTIV AWD® is available on all of the Mazda SUVs:
2019 Mazda CX-3
2019 Mazda CX-5
2019 Mazda CX-9
